1. Connect a scan tool.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
3. Insprct for PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's).

Are any DTC's found in the PCM, using a scan tool?

Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check

Go to Step 2

1. Using a scan tool in order to command the PCM to enable CRUISE.
2. Set the park brake.
3. Start the engine.
4. Turn the cruise switch OFF.
5. Turn the cruise switch ON and wait at least 3 seconds.
6. Push the SET/COAST switch in and hold.
7. Hold the cruise switch in the RES/ACC position.
8. Fully press and hold the brake pedal for at least 10 seconds.
9. Release the brake pedal while holding the RES/ACC and SET/COAST switches.

Does the engine RPM increase momentarily and then return to normal?

Inspect the cruise mechanical linkage for any binding or disconnected components.

Is the cruise linkage operating correctly?

Repair the linkage.
