The 5-speed and the 6-speed manual transmission output shaft seals are similar. The seal design is different but the removal and the installation procedures are the same. The only difference is the installation tool used in order to install the different seals.

Tools Required

1. Remove the propeller shaft assembly. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.



2. Remove the output shaft seal using a J 23907 and the J 26941 .

Tools Required

1. Install the output shaft seal.

•	Use the J 21426 for the 5-speed transmission.

•	Use the J 39440 for the 6-speed transmission.




2. Lubricate the inside diameter of the seal. Use only Dexron® III automatic transmission Fluid.
3. Install the propeller shaft assembly. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
4. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Inspection or to Transmission Fluid Inspection .

Notice: Use only DEXRON®-III Automatic Transmission Lubricant for this manual transmission assembly. Other lubricants or additives may damage the blocker ring friction material or the adhesives.

5. Install transmission fluid if required.
