Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    2. Object Number: 1293684 Size: SH
  2. Lift the locking lever on the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, then disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector (1).
  3. Lift the locking lever on the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, then disconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector (2).
  4. Loosen two intake duct clamps (3), then remove the duct.
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.
  6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  7. Disconnect the two heater hoses (1) and the inlet (2) and outlet (3) hoses from the water pump.

  8. Remove the two bolts (1) from the drive belt tensioner (2).

    9. Object Number: 1284358 Size: SH
  9. Remove the water pump as follows:
    10. 9.1. Remove the six water pump retaining bolts (1).
    9.2. Remove the water pump (2).
    9.3. Remove the water pump gaskets (3) and discard.
  10. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surface.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the water pump as follows:

    1.1. Position the water pump gaskets (3) to the water pump.
    1.2. Position the water pump (2) to the cylinder block.
    1.3. Install the six water pump retaining bolts (1). Progressively tighten the water pump retaining bolts in two steps:

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the water pump retaining bolts, first pass, to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the water pump retaining bolts, second pass to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  2. Install the two bolts (1) to the drive belt tensioner (2).

  3. Connect the two heater hoses (1) and the inlet (2) and outlet (3) hoses to the water pump.
  4. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  5. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory in Engine Mechanical - 5.7L.

  6. Position the intake duct then install two intake duct clamps (3).
  7. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector (2).
  8. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector (1).

    9. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
