Coolant Heater Replacement L26/L32
                    
Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to 
Cooling System Draining and Filling
.
 
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to 
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
 
- Disconnect the coolant heater cord from the coolant heater.
 
- Loosen the bolt at the coolant heater but DO NOT remove the coolant heater bolt.
 
- Remove the coolant heater.
 
- Remove and clean any burrs, compound, paint, or rough spots from the core plug hole.
 
Installation Procedure
- Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the following:
 
| •  | Engine block heater seal | 
 
| •  | Cleaned surface of the engine block heater hole | 
 
- Install the coolant heater by pushing it tight to the block. 
 
- Position the engine coolant heater element at the 9 o'clock position (2).
 
Final installed position between
10 o'clock (1) and 8 o'clock (3) is acceptable.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Tighten the coolant heater bolt until both locking wings draw tight against the inner wall of the engine block.
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 2 N·m (17 lb in).
- Connect the engine coolant heater cord to the engine coolant heater.
 
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to 
Cooling System Draining and Filling
 .

Removal Procedure
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to 
Cooling System Draining and Filling
 .
 
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to 
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
 .
 
- Disconnect the coolant heater cord from the coolant heater.
 
- Remove the coolant heater (114) and washer (115).
 
- Remove and clean any burrs, compound, paint, or rough spots from the core plug hole.
 
Installation Procedure
- Apply a 3.175 mm (0.125 in) bead of sealant, GM P/N 12346004
(Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the coolant heater.
 
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the coolant heater (114) and washer (115). 
 
Tighten
Tighten the coolant heater to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Connect the coolant heater cord to the coolant heater.
 
- Lower the vehicle.
 
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to 
Cooling System Draining and Filling
 .
