DTC Descriptor
DTC C1290: Steering Angle Sensor MalfunctionCircuit/System Description
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the steering position sensor every time the ignition is turned ON and the vehicle is driven at 35 km/h (22 mph) or more for 5 seconds. The BCM also stores the previous zero point.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The vehicle speed is at least 35 km/h (22 mph) for 5 seconds.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The steering position sensor zero point vastly differs from recorded value.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
| • | The ABS warning indicator turns ON. |
| • | The ABS is disabled. |
| • | The vehicle stability control (VSC) warning indicator turns ON. |
| • | The VSC is disabled. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the scan tool Clear DTCs function is used.

Circuit/System Verification
- Using a scan tool, perform yaw rate sensor calibration.
- Drive the vehicle at 35 km/h (22 mph) for 5 seconds and verify steering wheel is correctly centered.
| ⇒ | If steering wheel is not correctly centered, check for proper wheel alignment. |
| ⇒ | If steering wheel is correctly centered, replace the EBCM/BPMV. |
