1. Brake Warning Indicator Malfunction | ||||
The body control module (BCM) supplies a signal to the brake fluid level switch monitoring the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder. When the BCM sees the brake fluid level switch input grounded, it sends a serial data message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to turn ON the Red Brake Warning indicator.
The ignition is ON.
Low brake fluid is detected.
| • | The EBCM disables the antilock brake system (ABS)/traction control system (TCS) dynamic rear proportion (DRP) and vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES). |
| • | The ABS indicator illuminates. |
| • | The Traction Control indicator illuminates. |
| • | The Red Brake Warning indicator illuminates. |
| • | The condition for the DTC is no longer present. |
| • | The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles. |
Ensure the master cylinder reservoir is at the proper fluid level.

| ⇒ | If low, refer to Brake Fluid Loss . |
| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
| ⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC. |
| ⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC. |
| ⇒ | If greater than specified value, replace the brake fluid level switch. |
