Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 891856 Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and the tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake pads. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  4. Remove the brake pipe from the rear caliper. Plug the open brake pipe to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  5. Remove the caliper to the rear axle control arm fasteners.
  6. Remove the caliper assembly.

Installation Procedure
  1. Clean the caliper support bracket fasteners thoroughly with brake and choke cleaner P/N 21007432 or equivalent.

    2. Important: If LOCTITE 272® Threadlocker or equivalent is not available, new caliper support bracket fasteners must be used.

  2. Apply LOCTITE 272® Threadlocker or equivalent to the caliper support bracket fasteners.

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the caliper assembly to the rear axle control arm and tighten.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear caliper-to-rear axle control arm bolts to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  4. Install the brake pipe to the caliper assembly.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe-to-rear caliper to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

    Important: Never replace the brake pads on one side of the axle only. The left and right side brake pads must be replaced only as axle sets.

  5. Install the brake pads into the caliper.

    6. Object Number: 891853 Size: SH
  6. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the retaining pins.

    7. Important: Check to ensure the brake pads move freely in the guide.

  7. Install the brake pad retaining spring, and drive the brake pad retaining pins in from the inside outward.

    8. Caution: Refer to Wheel Installation Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  9. Position the wheel and the tire assembly onto the hub.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.

    12. Caution: Refer to Failure to Depress Brake Caution in the Preface section.

  12. Prior to operating the vehicle, press the brake a few times until the brake pads are seated against the rotor.
