Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide service information regarding a new
drawstring design seat cushion cover/pad and to update all 2000 - 2002 L-Series Body/Electrical
Volume II Service Manuals at your location.
The replacement seat cover/pad uses a drawstring to retain the cover/pad to
the seat cushion frame instead of the previous J-strip design. The new replacement
seat cushion cover/pad will service all 2000 - 2002 L-Series vehicles. 
When servicing the cover/pad, refer to the procedure in this bulletin. The attached
procedure replaces the currently published "Front Seat Cushion Cover/Pad" procedure
in the following service manuals:

Service Manual update for "Front Seat Cushion Cover/Pad" procedure in the 2000
- 2002 L-Series Body/Electrical Volume II Service Manuals. Refer to Technical Information
Bulletin 00-T-05. January, 2002. 
FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER/PAD 
Removal
- Remove seat from vehicle. Refer to "Front Seat
Removal" procedure in this section.
 
- Remove inner recliner cover fasteners.
 
- Remove outer valance panel. Refer to "Outer Valance
Panel Removal" procedure in this service manual.
 
- On power seat option and heated seats, disconnect
power recliner and seat back heat pad harness.
 
- Remove recliner fasteners and remove seat back assembly.
 
- Remove seat cover J-strip from seat frame at
back of cushion.
 
- If pad is to be replaced on heated seats, disconnect
heated seat wiring connector from seat frame harness.
 
- Remove seat cushion carrier fasteners and remove
seat carrier from seat adjuster.
 
- Remove seat cushion cover.
 
| •  | Using a flat blade screwdriver, disengage J-strip from seat cushion carrier. | 
 
| •  | Stretch one seat cover drawstring over the corresponding seat frame retaining
stud to free the drawstring from the stud. Repeat for opposite side of seat cover. | 
 
- Seats
 
| •  | Pull up material to expose hog rings (1) in foam pad. Remove hog rings
and remove cover. | 
 
| •  | Pull up material to expose hog rings (1) and plastic clips. Remove hog
rings and unhook plastic clips from seat cushion, then remove seat cover. | 
 
Installation
- Position seat cushion cover over seat cushion
foam.
 
| •  | Install hog rings (1) around seat cover and seat cushion foam. Pull seat
cover over seat cushion foam. | 
 
| •  | Install hog rings (1) and plastic clips around seat cover and seat cushion
foam. Pull seat cover over seat cushion frame. | 
 
- Position seat cushion pad onto seat carrier.
 
- 	Install seat cushion cover.
 
J-Strip Design
Attach seat cushion J-strips to seat carrier around front and sides.
- Drawstring Design
 
Stretch one seat cover drawstring across the opposite side and attach to seat
frame retaining stud through a loop on the drawstring. Repeat for opposite side of
seat cover.
| •  | Put enough tension on the string to ensure the
bottom lip of the seat cover folds tightly over the metal seat carrier. | 
 
| •  | Tuck away extra length of drawstring under seat cover. | 
 
- Position cushion carrier to seat adjuster and
secure with fasteners.
 
Tighten
Tighten the seat cushion carrier-to-seat adjuster fasteners to 20 N·m
(15 lb-ft).
- Wrap seat cover material over the back of seat
adjuster and secure with J-strip.
 
- On power seat and heated seat, route and connect
power seat recliner and heat pad harness to seat pad wiring harness.
 
- Install seat back assembly to seat adjuster.
 
Tighten
Tighten the recliner fasteners to 35 N·m (26 lb-ft).
- Install inner recliner cover.
 
Tighten
Tighten the inner recliner cover fasteners to 2.5 N·m (22 lb-in).
- Install outer valance panel. Refer to "Outer
Valance Panel Installation" procedure in this service manual.
 
-  Install seat into vehicle. Refer to "Front Seat
Installation" procedure in this section.
