Tools Required
| • | J 45051 Torque Converter
End Play Checking Tool |
- Position the torque converter with the flywheel
lugs facing down.
- Install the SA9179NE
(1)
and J 45051
(2) andJ 8001
(3) onto the torque
converter.
- Set the dial indicator to zero.
- Pull up on the J 45051
(2)
handle.
- Inspect the reading on the SA9179NE
(1).
End Play Specification
The correct end play is 0.5 mm
(0.02 in) or less.
- Repeat this procedure several times in order to get an accurate measurement.
- Replace the torque converter if the end play is too high.
- Inspect the torque converter assembly for the following:
| • | Metal particles found after flushing the oil cooler and the cooler lines |
| • | External leaks in the hub weld area |
| • | The torque converter pilot is damaged or fits poorly into the crankshaft, |
| • | Internal failure of the stator roller clutch |
| • | A damaged or worn torque converter bushing |
| • | Contamination from the engine coolant |
