Tools Required

    • J 23907 Slide Hammer
    • J 23129 Universal Seal Remover
    • J 29873 Injector Nozzle Socket 30 mm
    • J 44765 Seal Installer
    • J 45012 Holding Fixture
    • J 45019 Flange and Pinion Gage Remover

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .
  3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1955627 Size: SH
  4. Install the J 45012  (3) to the drive flange (2).
  5. Install the J 45012 to drive flange retaining bolts (4) and nuts (1) and tighten until firm.

    6. Object Number: 1956985 Size: SH
  6. While holding the J 45012  (5), remove the flange retaining nut (2) using the J 29873  (1) from the flange (4).

    7. Discard the nut.

  7. Remove the drive flange thrust washer (3).

    8. Object Number: 1955627 Size: SH
  8. Remove the J 45012 to drive flange retaining bolts (4) and nuts (1).
  9. Remove the J 45012  (3) from the drive flange (2).

    10. Object Number: 1956984 Size: SH
  10. Install the J 45019  (2) to the drive flange (4).

    11. Remove the drive flange (1) using the J 45019  (2).

  11. Install the J 45019 to drive flange retaining bolts (1), spacers (3) and nuts (5) and tighten until firm.
  12. Remove the drive flange (4) using the J 45019  (2).

  13. Use the J 23907  (3) and J 23129  (2) to remove the mainshaft rear oil seal (1) from the transmission extension housing.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1956945 Size: SH

    Important: Install the mainshaft rear oil seal (1) onto the tool before installing into the transmission extension housing to prevent damage to the mainshaft rear oil seal (1).

  1. Using J 44765  (2) install the new mainshaft rear oil seal (1).

    2. Object Number: 1957010 Size: SH
  2. Install the drive flange (2) to the transmission output shaft (1).

    3. Object Number: 1955627 Size: SH
  3. Install the J 45012  (3) to the drive flange (2).
  4. Install the J 45012 to drive flange retaining bolts (4) and nuts (1) and tighten until firm.

    5. Object Number: 1956985 Size: SH
  5. Install the drive flange thrust washer (3).

    6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. While holding the J 45012  (5), install the NEW flange retaining nut (2) using the J 29873  (1) to the flange (4).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  7. Remove the J 45012 to drive flange retaining bolts (4) and nuts (1).
  8. Remove the J 45012  (3) from the drive flange (2).
  9. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  10. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
