The rear washer is activated based on an input from the rear washer switch. When the wiper portion of the rear wiper/washer switch is closed, B+ is applied to the REAR/WSW relay indicating rear washer operation is requested. With B+ applied to the relay coil, the relay is energized and B+ is supplied to the washer pump.
Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation

| ⇒ | If the rear wipers do not operate properly, refer to Rear Wiper System Malfunction. |
| ⇒ | If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. |
| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
| ⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, replace the I/P fuse block. |
| ⇒ | If the test lamp is always ON, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the multifunction switch (WDA/Z88) or I/P switch assembly (W49). |
| ⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the multifunction switch (WDA/Z88) or I/P switch assembly (W49). |
| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
| ⇒ | If the rear window washer fluid pump does not activate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear window washer fluid pump. |
| ⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the multifunction switch. |
| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, replace the multifunction switch. |
| ⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the I/P switch assembly. |
| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, replace the I/P switch assembly. |
| ⇒ | If the rear window washer fluid pump does not activate, replace the rear window washer fluid pump. |
