Important: Ensure that the transaxle is secured properly to the transmission jack.
- Position the transaxle onto a transmission jack and secure the transaxle to the jack.
 
- Install the transaxle into the vehicle.
 
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the lower transaxle bolt (6) and the stud (1).
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolt and the stud to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Install the transaxle brace. Refer to 
Transmission Brace Replacement
 .
 
- Install 
J 37096 
 in order to gain access to install the torque converter bolts and to prevent the flywheel
from turning.
 
- Install the torque converter bolts.
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).
- Install the wheel drive shafts into the transaxle. Refer to 
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
 .
 
- Install the oil cooler pipes to the transaxle. Refer to 
Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose Replacement
 .
 
- Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle.
 
- Install the frame to the vehicle. Refer to 
Frame Replacement
 .
 
- Connect the electrical connector to the vehicle speed sensor.
 
- Install the left and the right engine splash shield. Refer to 
Engine Splash Shield Replacement
 .
 
- Install the front wheels. Refer to 
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
 .
 
- Lower the vehicle.
 
- Remove the engine support fixture.
 
- Install the upper transaxle bolts (3, 4, 5) and the stud (2).
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolts and the stud to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Install the cable to the transaxle range selector cable bracket.
 
- Install the A/T range selector cable retainer to the cable.
 
- Install the transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle shift lever.
 
- Reposition the wiring harness and install the wiring harness bracket and the bolt (7).
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the wiring harness grounds (5) to the transaxle.
 
- Install the transaxle wiring harness ground bolt (6) to the transaxle.
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the wiring harness grounds (1, 2) to the transaxle.
 
- Install the wiring harness ground nut (3) to the transaxle.
 
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Install the starter motor. Refer to 
Starter Motor Replacement
 .
 
- Connect the transaxle wiring harness electrical connector (4).
 
- Install the engine crossover pipe. Refer to 
Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement
 .
 
- Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to 
Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
 for the 3.8L engine or 
Air Cleaner Element Replacement
 for the 5.3L engine.
 
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to 
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
 .
 
Notice: Refer to Transmission Overfill Notice in the Preface section.
- Fill the transaxle with transmission fluid.
 
- Inspect the transaxle for fluid leaks. Refer to 
Fluid Leak Diagnosis
 .
 
Important: It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.
Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will
need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.
- Reset the TAP values. Refer to 
Transmission Adaptive Functions
